Belonging Analysis A Poem by Feliks Skrzynecki Essay Example

Belonging Analysis: A Poem by Feliks Skrzynecki Essay Within the concept of belonging there is a understanding that the human not only belongs to certain aspects of society but also Is enthusiastic about trying to gain acceptance and inclusion consciously with in one’s environment. With in context of belonging we are to see through Peter Skrzynecki poem St. Patrick College the emotional stances of apathetic nature towards the protagonist surroundings. Skrzynecki show inclusion in the poem St. Patricks College. In the poem Skrzynecki is clearly included in the school as he wears the â€Å"blue, black and gold†. While he is included at the school there does not seem a real sense of belonging to it. Skrzynecki appears to have a sense of apathy towards the school. Skrzynecki uses repetition to get across the amount of time he spent at school through the line â€Å"For eight years† giving a strong sense of apathy, even though he is included. Skrzynecki also creates an idea of apathy through the lines â€Å"Luceat Lux Vestra I thought was a brand of soap† the idea of the school motto and him not knowing it gives a sense of apathy that he doesn’t care but he is included in the college life. But in the move there is a Player ray who is included he starts , he always plays yet he can not belong to the team its not that he can’t its that he doesn’t care the same way Skrzynecki didn’t care about the school, Ray couldn’t play in the team with blacks and whites and then was cut not by coach Boone but by a fellow white player who did belong and felt like he wasn’t trying to belong. To help us to realise that people can be include in groups but not really feel like they belong to them. Belonging is a connection that goes beyond following conventions and wearing a uniform as shown in Skrzynecki poem St Patricks College. Skrzynecki idea of inclusion and belonging as well as the inclusion but still not belonging engages us all to reflect on our life’s and how we might be included but yet not belong to that group this can be in many environments fore example schools or friendship groups you may be included in the events and life of theses groups but yet not feel a sense of belonging which you must evaluate how important belonging is to you. There is an amicable nature within the human condition that allows us as human being to form relationships as an integral part of society, certain attributes and skills obligatory when trying to gain acceptance and to amalgamate yourself into society. Integration into society is a formidable aspect of belonging. Integration is a clear-cut part of Skrzynecki poems, it the poem St. Patrick’s college. Skrzynecki is integrated into the school by wearing the uniform â€Å"blue, black and gold†, by learning the Christian ways and conjugations â€Å"learnt my conjugations†. Skrzynecki integrates himself into college life he has the attribute to do so, he has the intelligence and understanding of Christians views. Another example of integration is demonstrated in Skrzynecki poem ‘Feliks Skrzynecki’. Feliks try’s to integrate him into the Australian culture by keeping up with trends shown through the line â€Å"kept pace only with the joneses† he follows trends to integrate himself into society. But he follows them in â€Å"his own minds making†. As much as Feliks Skrzynecki integrates himself into society he does not have a sense of belonging. Feliks Skrzynecki doesn’t have the proper attributes to integrate and belong into society. There are certain barriers that stop him from integrating into society. Feliks does not speak English shown through the quote â€Å" Did your father even attempt to learn English? † said by the department clerk this a clear rejection by society of Feliks Skrzynecki due to the language barrier of him not knowing English Feliks Skrzynecki is form Poland when with his Polish friends he has a strong sense of belonging with his culture of Poland. Feliks Skrzynecki has integrated his polish culture with Australian culture to give himself a sense of belonging. The poem gives a strong sense of not belonging but in the case of Feliks Skrzynecki he chooses not to learn English and instead integrates him own culture. Integration corresponds to the movie Remember the Titans made it 2000. The whole idea of the movie is based on integration. The movie is bade on the integration of the schools a black and white one and their football teams. The integration makes them belong to same thing special in their time, to a certain culture of an integrated Black and white team. Feliks Skrzynecki try’s to integrate him but cannot do so because of the language barriers. This is the same in Remember the Titans, they try to integrate themselves into one team but can no due to the hate between the coaches and players as shown â€Å" I am not playing for no black coach† said by one of them players. It is coach Boone who creates a culture in the team where black or white doesn’t matter â€Å"doesn’t matter what colour black or white the best player will play† this said by coach Boone created the a integrated team culture. The Rest of the world hates this sense of the Black and white team and everyone is against them but coach creates this culture in the football to make them a team. Feliks Skrzynecki creates his own culture of Polish people just like the movie creates its own football team cause they don’t belong shown through the quote â€Å"His Polish Friends† Showing that they would come over giving him a sense of belonging. As Feliks Skrzynecki chooses not to belong to the Australian culture cause he doesn’t want to learn English in the movie ray chooses not to integrate him into the culture of the team by not protecting the blacks in the football game and he rejected or kick out of the team as Feliks was rejected. The idea of integration is an intrinsic aspect of out lives because we may integrate into society to belong integration is main aspect of belonging. Skrzynecki engages us to relate in our lives and to think are we integrated into society? It also makes us think if we belong or not belong and if we don’t belong is it our choice or is there just no we can belong due to a barrier such as language. Skrzynecki engages us to think about how we belong and if it is vital for us to belong or do we want to belong to our own culture.

How Do You Cite References When Writing an Essay?

How Do You Cite References When Writing an Essay? The power of referencing your sources is greatly important in college writing and you need to know how to cite references when writing an essay. When a student has many references, it can be difficult to get the entire story of a particular situation from all of the sources. Sometimes the references are indirect, but they should be cited so that the student can write a good essay on the same subject. A good essay will leave the reader with a greater understanding of a particular situation and a good essay will leave the writer feeling more confident in writing a coherent essay. In order to know how to cite references when writing an essay, you first have to understand that you do not always have to refer to all references. Sometimes you can cite only one or two references to avoid the problem of having to constantly reference the same source all throughout the essay. An example of such an essay is a 'butterfly effect' essay. In such a s ituation, the references would be to a particular topic that caused this butterfly effect.Another way to know how to cite references when writing an essay is to understand that it is OK to change sources in a single sentence. What is important is that you keep the same theme and format for all references, otherwise the essay will lose its purpose. It is also possible to skip any reference if you think the reference is no longer relevant. However, it may be tempting to throw away any old references you might have forgotten in order to save space. However, it is not wise to completely ignore references, because you can use them in various ways in the essay. One good way to know how to cite references when writing an essay is to pay attention to how the essay flow and point. References are sometimes needed in order to emphasize a particular point of the essay, but it is not always the case. Some references may be superfluous or unnecessary in a situation. You must be very careful about how you write your essay, especially in that regard.Another way to know how to cite references when writing an essay is to consider how the essay will be used by readers. If the essay is used for further writing, a reference is not necessary, but if the essay is merely read it will be necessary to provide one or more references. If you are writing the essay for the journal or for a reference then references are required.References in an essay should not be too long, especially if you have a large article to write. In fact, a reference should never exceed ten lines. All references should have ample information about the original source, the nature of the reference, and how it relates to the essay. Once again, this can help in understanding the purpose of the reference and also it is important to include all three main parts. Then you can decide whether to include a main paragraph about the specific quote or reference or not.The power of references is useful for writers who want to be precise in their essay and want to avoid any doubt about the meaning of their work. Remember that you do not have to list all references at the end of your essay, but you should still be able to cite some of them. A good way to handle this is to put all references into a separate paragraph, after which you can start writing.
